Act of Contrition
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Kentucky (April, 2001)
Authors: Janice Holt Giles and Wade Hall
Average review score:

Beautiful Love Story
Years after her death, a book by JHG has been published that is a beautiful love story between two people at a time when divorce was against religious teachings. Yet these characters demonstrate that life is good even though all others seem to be against what would be the only way for them to lead the life they seem destined to live.

I could not put the book down until I had finished. It was too long in coming!

Becoming: As Truth Is and As Love Does
Published in Paperback by Dorrance Publishing Co (01 September, 1998)
Author: Elmore Giles Jr.
Average review score:

A profound, yet practical guide to noble living.
Three sections on Ethicality, Values and Spirituality, plus an Introduction are the outline of this heart-filled book. The main section, Values and Ideals, consists of aphoristically written chapters focussing on virtues such as Duty, Discrimination, Friendship and many more. Practicing virtues and avoiding vices leads, lifetime by lifetime, to a greater perfection. A perfection of selfless love and realization of truth. As the author, Elmore Giles Jr., puts it: "The purpose of our journeys on Earth is to evolve our spiritual essence, to achieve conscious divinity, and to become a beneficent influence and help other lives on the same journey."

Berlin
Published in Paperback by Griffin Trade Paperback (November, 1999)
Author: Giles MacDonogh
Average review score:

Its 'bout Berlin. Enough already!
You won't read about Berlin Betty. When your done reading you will know all about Berlin. The only thing is that it's hard to relate to reading the book b/c I've never been there before (I want to). I found myself refering to the maps which are extensive and detailed. Which were a big HELP. The book is well written and intresting.

I would recommend this book to anyone. I've learned a lot about Berlin. One of my friends who use to live in Germany on AF Base. I was talking to him about what I read. Man, I know more about Berlin than he did, and I've never be there either.

In your spare time get a PH.D on Berlin (just joking) ...

The Spanish version is a different book!
I just want to correct the previous review from a reader in Georgia (USA). The Spanish version is a different book with different cover and ISBN number. The ISBN for the English version is 2831563151 (pub. date May 1998) while the one for the Spanish version is 2831665634 (pub. date Oct. 1998). This is a great little book...I shall be able to provide my true review when I come back from my trip to Paris in a month. See you soon.

Breaking into Japanese Literature
Published in Paperback by Kodansha International (May, 2003)
Author: Giles Murray
Average review score:

An extremely helpful and very enjoyable book
There comes a time when any student of Japanese must dare to read his first book of Japanese literature in the original. "Breaking into Japanese Literature" was the perfect book to prepare me for this step. I have read many translations of modern and contemporary Japanese literature in the past few years and for every English book I read I made sure to buy the Japanese original as well (I live in Tokyo where second hand Japanese books can be found at about the 20th of the price of their translations so this is a very small investment).
Now, after spending a few weeks with Mr Murray's book I have finally broken into that unused part of my library.
I have been particularly pleased with the selection of authors and stories as I have always hoped to read Soseki and Akutagawa in Japanese. The stories are captivating, the translation is very careful and elegant and the narration provided online is a wonderful bonus. My Japanese teacher always advised me to read aloud in Japanese, the narrations provided here are not only very entertaining but also very useful.

A life torn between revolution ang gastronomy
Brillat-Savarin is without contest the nicest figure in french history. Far from beeing only a gourmet, he was also deeply involved in the events of the french revolution. Giles Mac Donogh renders perfectly the atmosphere of a life turned upside down by history, at a time when the cuisine itself experienced a deep change: the first restaurants were opened a few years before the revolution

Button and Tiny is a very good book. Button and Tiny are mushrooms. They find something while working on their garden. Spud, someone else from the Munch Bunch pulls it out, but he takes it away from Button and Tiny. Later, while running away from Button and Tiny,he trips over Proffesor Peabody's feet, who gives the mushrooms back their thing, and finds another thing in their garden that is connected to the first one.
